Things That Matter
Topics of Issues and Concerns for Sunset Beach

Taxes
The town needs to strengthen its fiduciary responsibilities and adhere to the budget. A balanced budget should stand firm without the need for multiple amendments soon after approval. It's essential to treat taxpayers' dollars with the respect they deserve and avoid viewing them as an endless resource. Let's prioritize responsible financial management for the benefit of our community.

Infrastructure
We need a comprehensive evaluation of the Town's infrastructure system that would identify failures and deficiencies. The Town must take a proactive approach to implementing long-term plans to address existing deficiencies before they lead to breakdowns or failures.
My background equips me with valuable institutional knowledge, enabling me to foresee potential concerns and identify the necessary solutions to correct them effectively. By leveraging this expertise, we can ensure a more resilient and efficient system moving forward.

Island Parking
To effectively address the safety concerns surrounding island parking, it is crucial to gather comprehensive information, including vehicle counts and the adverse impacts parking has had on homeowners and businesses. By fostering proactive communication and transparency, we can work towards creating a safer environment for all residents and visitors.
The Town should strengthen its partnership with NCDOT to ensure these safety measures are implemented effectively. Together, we can enhance the safety and well-being of our community.

Trust & Integrity
I want to restore the citizen's faith and trust in our Town Government through timely and transparent communication; honesty and integrity on the daily operations of the Town; accountability for the Town's actions/decisions; and active engagement in the citizen's concerns. No more status quo.
The Town has a responsibility to LISTEN to its citizens regarding growth and development; and think of ways we can preserve our "small town" feel.
Politicians have no right deciding "what's best" for the Town without the public's input!

Non-Essential Spending
Town Government must be committed to prioritizing essential services and ensuring that taxpayers dollars are spent wisely. We must focus on long-term funding needs that support the replacement of critical public works and public safety equipment, as well as necessary infrastructure repairs. It’s time to shift the focus from trivial projects to what truly matters: the well-being and sustainable future of our town. Together, we can prioritize initiatives that promote growth, health, and resilience for our community. Let’s invest our energy and resources on projects that will make a lasting impact on our environment and quality of life. Our collective efforts can pave the way for a better future.

Dredging
The Town must be open to communication from the citizens pertaining to dredging.
My goal would be to establish a citizen advisory committee to support the Town's long-term management of dredging. The Town should not be discharging "dirty" water into the waterways.
We must ensure fair and equitable billing by linear foot to the citizens directly impacted by dredging costs, not by parcel.
We must work as one team to address the issues and concerns that impact our waterways and protect our environmental resources.

Environment
The Town needs to embark on a campaign to increase our living shorelines. Doing so protects the waterways and controls erosion. Our shorelines and waterways are an important part of this Community and are essential to the diverse wildlife that depend on us being good stewards of those resources.
In addition to the living shoreline, the Town owns and is responsible for the upkeep of 10 ponds and two small lakes, all of which contribute to the natural ecosystem of Sunset Beach.

Growth
I support growth that benefits the community. I want the citizens' input on their needs and wants, with the end goal of preserving the Town's beauty and uniqueness.
