What is real-time technology?
Real-time technology refers to systems that process data and provide insights
instantaneously, enabling immediate decision-making and actions across various industries. In our case, Sunset Beach Town Officials and NCDOT.
It utilizes a network of sensors, cameras, and data sources that continuously updates traffic conditions, providing information to drivers, transit systems, and city planners in managing traffic flow, enhancing safety, and reducing congestion.
The technology operates through three main stages:
Data collection from roadway sensors, traffic cameras, and GPS devices,
Computes data analysis to identify patterns and predict traffic flow,
Distributes information to users via adaptive traffic signals, navigation apps, dynamic message signs, and emergency response coordination.
What are the benefits?
The benefits include reduced congestion, improved safety, lower emissions, efficient traffic control, and better planning through traffic data.
With the coordination of NCDOT, Sunset Beach can use real-time technology to provide data for those wanting to visit the beach - especially during peak times. Parking vendors could utilize real-time data every quarter to half-hour to advise how many spaces are available, thereby reducing or eliminating the need for visitors to circle island streets endlessly searching for a parking space. The data could provide valuable information on how many parking spaces are available - WELL BEFORE visitors commit to crossing the bridge.
Food for thought!
