ACCOMPLISHMENTS - Blue Lights

Hello again, everyone!

In my previous post, I promised to share some accomplishments I've achieved in our town.

Here’s a picture of me standing beneath a blue streetlight. Drawing from my past work experience, I recognized immediately that this type of roadway lighting was inadequate. One night in early 2024, after noticing the blue streetlights in our community, I visited the BEMC website. I discovered a newsletter stating that they would replace these lights upon notification.

Michele and I embarked on a mission, spending four nights driving around the town to tally the number of blue streetlights. By the end of our counting, we found nearly 80, most of which were located on the island. The next day, I contacted BEMC, and they were surprised by the significant number. They informed me that they work directly with a manager responsible for addressing this issue.

We agreed that I would provide them with the pole numbers and the nearest addresses, and I would also attach orange survey tape to assist them in locating the poles. BEMC then sent a private contractor to begin replacing the lights during the day, with BEMC checking their work at night.

The upgrade process kicked off in the last week of February and was completed before Easter. I advised BEMC about the busy foot traffic on the island during Easter, and they graciously prioritized that area for safety.
